As our lives become busier and more time constrained, there are common pleasures that we now have less time for. I can guess what some of you are thinking … but in this instance … I was referring to reading.
As someone who is able to pick up a good magazine, book or rag and not stop reading until read from cover to back; often spanning across days in the case of a spanking book … I now rarely succumb due to knowing I just don’t have time to spend three days in front of my favourite softcover.
I suspect many are in the same tub, with reading often becoming a guilty pleasure that we steal a few minutes for, via phone or tablet. As a result, the decline in traditional print media is evident, even right here in Parkes … with the local newspaper now published twice weekly instead of thrice.
What this means for small business is advertising is less effective.
The broad range of avenues available for news, including social media, has also lessened the impact of advertising.
Whilst some may argue that social media isn’t really a good avenue for news due to the lack of regulation and fact, what it does do, is give us the power to gather the pieces from a range of sources, then decide for ourselves. Empowering!!
The pieces we usually search and seek, when deciding if something is actually factual, are pictures and video … as these allow us to “see for ourselves”.
Mailchimp is an easy-to-use email campaign tool, that allows you to send emails such as newsletters out without too much IT knowledge. And it’s completely free until you reach 2000 subscribers.
When you combine it with Mailchimp Snap, an app that is installed on your mobile or tablet, and Instagram, you get the ability to snap and send pics directly to your subscribers … hash tags included.
Of course Facebook can also be used for small business marketing, but what many don’t think about is the insight Facebook can give competitors … right down to who your best customer is. Consider the implications, through lack of time or control, for your business before relying solely on Facebook for marketing.
The Mailchimp combo gives you control to target the right people, in the right way, at the right time … along with analytics that help you know your customer well.
